I woke to the soft filtering of morning light and a strange, heavy warmth against my chest. Disoriented, I looked down to find Ekansh fast asleep, his head resting on me with a surprising, childlike vulnerability. My mind drifted back to the night before to the way he had kissed me, with a desperation that made it feel as though I were his only lifeline. I had been shy, overwhelmed by the intensity, but he was my husband. It had felt right to let him. I knew he was holding back for my sake, sensing I wasn't ready for more, and that restraint made my heart flutter in a way I didn't yet understand.
